Patriot Act and Civil Liberties
Patriot Act
This dangerous and unconstitutional legislation must be repealed urgently. The few elements of it that are necessary and proper to fighting terrorism can be enacted as separate laws.
Freedom of the Press
A truly free press is essential to preserving American freedom. The press must be free from government coercion, must have access to the government, and must be allowed to protect their sources of accurate information.
Domestic Spying
Warrantless spying should never be legal. An elected government does have the authority to invade the lives of its own citizens without due cause and without due process.
Data Mining
Data mining is a form of domestic spying and must stop.
Privacy
The individual, not the government, has the right to determine what they do and do not consider private information. The notion that law-abiding citizens have nothing to hide is absurd. If you're not a sex offender, would you object to me installing a camera over your bed to ensure that you're not committing sex crimes?
First Amendment
The freedom of speech, belief, and association are perhaps our most precious rights. I will fight every attempt to erode the rights the First Amendment guarantees.
Habeas Corpus
The right to challenge your detention in a court of law is unequivocally granted in the Constitution. Recent legislation passed by Congress denying habeas corpus rights to so-called "enemy combatants" is unconstitutional.
